The committee is actively soliciting as many as possible to rally to the cause of perserving our hot mineral waters in Desert Hot Springs. The committee encourages people to write letters in support to designated members of Congress (See below). Accordingly, we at the Lido Palms Resort and Spa are requesting our guestbase to lend your support to this cause.
By visiting the W.O.W. Ad Hoc Committees website: www.writeforourwater.org you'll find the following information:
1. Copy of The Desert Sun Op-Ed piece dated April 11, 2010 which overviews the issues in detail.
2. A copy of the Mission Springs Water District pamphlet with additional clarifying important information.
3. Sample letters addressed to Senators Boxer and Feinstein (...Senator Boxer is sponsoring the bill that would authorizes the needed $35,000,000 to complete the sewer project and rid us of septic tanks.)
4. Samples letters to Congress members Mary Bono Mack and Jerry Lewis.
5. These letters, on the website, are in downloadable format and can be personalized by you - feel free to make changes, etc. What we need is for you to send the letters to all 4 Representatives.
6. We would also like to you to share the website with friends, neighbors, business associates, family and organizations you may belong to....we need letters sent, as many as possible. (...the letters don't need to come from just the Mission Springs Water District service area - but from any and all interested parties in the Coachella Valley....you could say we're at the "head waters" and what happens to our water could very easily affect the entire Valley.)
The committee thanks you for taking a few minutes to familiarize yourself on the issues and hopes we can count on you to send in those letters of support - it means jobs, increased property value and most importantly it protects our precious water - both hot and cold.

Lido Palms Resort and Spa is the Setting for Women's Spiritual Retreats
In the July, 2010 issue of the San Deigo Jewish Journal, Pamela Price has written an article on the women's retreats periodically hosted by Olivia Schwartz at the Lido Palms Resort and Spa in Desert Hot Springs. Olivia Schwartz is the co-director of the Chai Center, a non-profit organization dedicated to serving the Jewish community in greater Los Angeles.
Pamela notes that Olivia Schwartz is a firm believer in spa culture. In Olivia’s view, the natural hot mineral water pools and the spa treatments at the Lido Palms are particularly conducive to her program for spiritual and physical growth and nurturing. Among the diverse group of women in attendance at Olivia's last retreat held in April were several guests from Israel, Persia and Russia. Shimona Tzukernik, the founder and director of OMEK, a center devoted to in-depth transformational learning for women, was the featured speaker and hails from South Africa.
Pamela has written for Forbes Traveler.com and is the co-author of "100 Best Spas of the World"

Palm Springs International ShortFest FollowUp
The 16th annual Palm Springs international Shortfest is underway and will run through June 28. Out of 3,000 worldwide entries, 314 short films are being shown packaged into 52 "themed" programs. There is plenty of star power present too, either behind the camera, acting or providing the voices for animated shorts.
The L.A. Times reports that an 18-minute film, Pax, directed and narrated by Glenn Close, is one of the featured presentations at the festival. Stars appearing on film include Alicia Witt, Matthew Rhys, John Mahoney, Lili Taylor and AnnaLynne McCord, while Helena Bonham-Carter, Meryl Streep, Spike Jonze and Forest Whitaker can be heard voicing animated characters. Kirsten Dunst directs her contemporary take on the Christ story in "Bastards" and James Franco has written and directed three shorts that will be shown.
We at the Lido Palms Resort and Spa in Desert Hot Springs certainly look forward to the festival each year. A couple of our guests attended and truly enjoyed the experience as did my wife and I. In addition, our guests were able to gain much needed relaxation with their spa treatments and soaking in our mineral water pools. It turned out to be a great get away for them.

Kraft Nabisco Championship and the Lido Palms Resort and Spa
The top women golfers in the world are coming to the first 2010 major on the LPGA tour at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage. Last year two couples attended the tournament and stayed with us at the Lido Palms Resort and Spa. One of the couples is returning this week to again enjoy our mineral water pools while attending the Kraft Nabisco. We all are rooting for Michelle Wie to win her first major!
As an aside, when Rosemary and I initially came to Desert Hot Springs, we noted with some surprise a small Korean restaurant on Palm Ave. It's quite good. I believe this is the only Korean restaurant in the valley and given the more than 40 Korean members on the LPGA tour, you can be assured that it will be a pretty hopping place this coming weekend.

2010 Desert Hot Springs Spa Tour a Huge Success!
On the evening of February 18th, fourteen Desert Hot Springs hoteliers opened their doors to over 400 ticket holders of the 2010 Desert Hot Springs Spa Tour. Attendees
boarded buses provided for the event at Cabot’s Museum at 5:00 pm and spent the rest of the evening stopping for short visits at each hotel. Lido Palms Resort and Spa hosted over 200 Spa Tour visitors that evening as they toured The Spa, the three hot mineral water pools and the guest rooms opened for display. Many guests stopped to view the video presentation on Ai Chi, a form of meditative movements in water which is now being offered at The Lido Palms Resort and Spa and discussed the practice with instructor, Ann Moureau.Tourers ended their tour of The Lido Palms Resort and Spa with a visit to the chocolate fountain and a sip of champagne. A party atmosphere ensued thanks in large part to the hospitality of our volunteer staff for the evening. Needless to say, the evening was a huge success and we look forward to next year’s event

Spring at the Lido Palms in Desert Hot Springs
It was a cold winter season this year that included a good bit of rain in late January and early February. However, full days of rain failed to deter many of
our guests as they took advantage of a soothing hot soak in one of the Lido’s
hot mineral water pools . Resident Manager, Martin Lawler, just couldn’t resist a
photo op and gave a couple staying with us over a rainy weekend his umbrella
as they snuggled together in the pool. As a result of all the rains, we expect our cactus to be blossoming early this year. The ocotillo are already covered with green leaves and their orange blossoms should appear very soon. James and Marvella Koelling
spent four weeks at The Lido Palms in December, spanning the Christmas and New Year’s
holidays, and are now back home in Oregon. We have also had the pleasure of having a few long-term winter guests this year, including Dorothy and George Truss and Herta and Reiney Luther, both couples from New Jersey. Quite a few members of the extended Luther family took the opportunity to escape the cold weather and visit Mom and Dad at The Lido Palms Resort and Spa on several different trips. All were appreciative
of the beautiful weather we take for granted. What a wonderful close-knit family they are.

New Photo Gallery Feature Added to the Lido Palms' Website
We are working on adding new features to the Lido Palms Resort and Spa website. A new photo gallery has been added. The gallery is divided into sections, each section focusing on a particlar topic. For example, one will feature additional pictures of the Lido Palms Resort and Spa, i.e., its rooms, indoor and outdoor mineral water pools, barbeque and upper patio areas and so forth. Another will be entitled "Guest Photos" and will present photos taken by our guests during their stays with us. This is a favorite one for us and we will be encouraging our guests to provide us with their photos for inclusion on our website. A third section will display photos of the local attractions nearby the Desert Hot Springs area.
There will also be a new page added to the website describing the wellness programs that are being introduced at the Lido Palms. Currently, there is a weekly group class in Ai Chi (meditative movements in water)held on Sunday for our guests. Ann Moureau is the instructor. Ann is also a Reiki practitioner and Yoga master.
